A Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIP) is any procedure that is less invasive than open surgery, used for the same purpose. A MIP typically involves use of a small camera (scope) and specially designed modern instruments. With enhanced view of the surgical field in a large scale high definition display panel, surgery is carried out through very small skin incisions, avoiding unnecessary tissue trauma yet accomplishing the same treatment goal.
Patient may require only a Band-Aid on the incision, rather than multiple stitches to close a large incision. This usually results in less infection, a quicker less painful recovery time and earlier return to normal life activities and work.
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), requires a specialty training in simulated learning environment facilitated by intensive cadaveric training.
